Artists/ Groups:

The Beatles

16 magazine was the foremost American teen magazine of the 1960s, and like all their competitors, they started to feature the Beatles as frequently as possible following their February 1964 debut visit to the USA.

By the time the Beatles returned to the States that August for their first tour, just about every available photograph ever taken of the group had been made available in one format or another, so there was a new trend towards artistic interpretations: the Volpe, Jansen and Thorne paintings, Currie caricatures and Resco B&W sketches all went on sale around this time, usually with the tagline 'Suitable for Framing!'

16 responded by having an otherwise anonymous artist who signed his work 'JT' draw these four hugh quality lifelike  B&W sketches, based on the famous Dezo Hoffmann band promotional photo. They were run as the centrefold pin-ups in four consecutive monthly issues, starting in November 1964.

This is a rare opportunity to pick up all four sketches - 'Suitable for Framing!' - without having to first buy and ruin four valuable vintage issues of 16. Each portrait measures 16.5 x 11 inches (43 x 28 cm). There are a couple of small creases, some paper yellowing and a couple of very small splits along the central folds (see pictures) but nothing that would show when flattened and mounted for display.

Please see my other items. I'll combine postage for multiple purchases, BUT PLEASE ASK FIRST.

Postage quoted for this item is first class UK or air mail World Zone 1 with cardboard support. Bear in mind this is a large card with an unusual shape. (I'm not looking to make a profit from P&P, though, and if it turns out it costs more than £1 less to send than I've charged, I'll refund the difference via Paypal.)

If you're thinking of bidding from overseas and would like a postage quote to your country, please let me know.
