You are looking at my 1976 Triumph Bonneville, which I've owned for over 5 years. It's a US model, re-imported into this country in 1992 (I have a copy of HM Customs paperwork for this) and registered here with an age-related plate and a V5 document. Old MoTs stretching back to 1994 back up the current low mileage of 15,786.
I'll be sad to see the old girl go, but I need a more modern bike to commute to work on. I've covered around 3,000 miles on the bike, including 2,000 last year (holiday in France/Spain, Isle of Man Classic TT and Piston Rally in Spain).
The bike starts and runs well and has been treated to many new parts during my ownership:
Cables: clutch, throttle, speedo
Piston rings (bores checked for ovality & honed)
Copper head gasket
Swingarm bushes/bobbins (properly reamed in)
Metalastic handlebar bushes
Rear brake pads
Amal carburettors (brand new premium spec, with anodised slides, fitted last year)
Grab rail (the bike came with a sissy bar, which the new owner is welcome to)
Podtronics (electronic system that does away with Zenner diode/regulator)
I have removed the ugly indicators and reflectors but they will be included in the sale.
The not-so-great bits:
Scabby right-hand switchgear has never worked (but no detriment to riding/running)
Centrestand is a bit wobbly - may be fractured (new ones are available)
Chrome forktops are a bit scabby (ditto the above)
Right-hand exhaust is dented (fell off workbench).
Rip in seat cover (see pic)
There is the odd dribble of oil from the engine/gearbox area (but it's a Bonnie - what do you expect?)
Overall, this is a fully road-legal bike you could hop onto and ride for the rest of the season. It's a genuine old thing that hasn't been messed about with, like a lot of these bikes have, and only really needs a bit of cosmetic attention and an owner who'll give it the TLC it deserves.
Forgot to mention - the bike sounds fantastic thanks to the peashooter pipes!
Viewing welcome by prior appointment.
Just to remind you - you are bidding to buy, not to view.
