About this product
- DescriptionHenry Alex Rubin and Dana Adam Shapiro's MURDERBALL is an inspiring documentary, which proves that physical limitations are no match for the human spirit. For the determined quadriplegic men who participate in the dangerous sport of 'quad rugby', it's more than just a game: it's a chance to prove themselves in a much bigger way.
With armoured wheelchairs and enough macho energy to overcome any challenge, the players engage in a violently physical game. The charming but intimidating Mark Zupan was angry and suicidal after a car accident relegated him to a wheelchair. He regained his confidence and spirit by becoming both a player and the spokesman for quad rugby's Team USA. Zupan's militaresque rival, Joe Soares, is a former star for Team USA who headed north to coach Team Canada when he was cut from the US team in 2000.
Concentrating on the buildup to the 2004 Paralympics in Athens, the film introduces other awe-striking figures--young men who have risen to the challenge of the game time and time again. As the days build to the inevitable showdown between Team USA and Team Canada, Rubin and Shapiro fill the screen with story after story, prodding the audience to swallow their own individual stereotypes and appreciate the efforts of these extraordinary men. The magic of MURDERBALL is that it never feels preachy. Rather, it entertains as much as it enlightens.

Paraplegics live life to the max.
This film is about actual paraplegics and their struggles to maintain a decent quality of life through their determination in their sport of Murderball. A sobering reflection on a life, lived by the men and their families, that few of us are even aware of.

I had heard about this film and how good it is, and I can only repeat that sentiment. It's definitely worth watching at least once, although it's a shame there isn't more on how the stars with neck injuries cope with day-to-day living. I have to admit the editing leaves a rather unsatisfactory movie, in that there isn't a significant length of quad rugby to get into and enjoy, and what we do see is jump-cuts. The introduction of Keith (I think) who is in hospital recovering from a MotoX accident is the uplifting part, and how he catches the Murderball bug is terrific. Would have liked more about his physio, etc, but that's not what the director set out to portray. The dvd is cheap to buy, and if you don't like it you can always sell it on.

THE BEST DOCU/FILM I HAVE EVER SEEN
Often hidden from the able bodied members of society, this docu film follows the life and activity of wheel chair users, who, after finding themselves confined to wheel chairs through several assorted injuries and birth defects. These young guys try to deal with their life and live as "normal" a life as possible, taking on a new sport of Wheel Chair Rugby. Playing for there country, the USA and Canada they play thos hard hitting game to the max. Some of them explain how after being stuck un a wheel chair, they actually do more with their life than they did when they were able bodied. This is a fantastic no holds barred look at there achievements, their loves , and there fights. No "soft pussies" here, they are a great bunch of guys, and i wish i had there balls!! they are a great team of lads who's life has been torn apart, but yet they live on with their life to the utimate MAX. A totally brilliant film to watch, ok, there is a bit of foul language etc but hey! thats life, please ohh please dont miss this film, i recommend it to all viewrs, the next time you have a pain or ache and you are about to complain to your family members, watch this film first and you will realise what a wimp you are, infact what wimps we all are!! These guys rock and i take my hat off to them, so much so, i have arranged to go a meet the USA team in person! Read full review
