This is the premier telescope for viewing solar flares, etc and works well. The set-up is easy and it is light weight. These are expensive units. The only concern about this one is that I was surprised it was 10 years old.

I bought the pst after a long wait and without looking throught it before: so expectations were high. They were met: the view is definitely exciting. Flares, prominenses and granulation are a wonderful sight. The only negative point is that you can't push very far the magnification. 5mm eyepiece is the max I found of some use (and after all didn't showed anything more than my 8mm). Nevertheless, webcam shooting works great also if finding the focus is a pain. The focus system sucks and the bloking filter is too small (that means kind small field of view or heavy parallax effect). Anyway, this scope is worth every single coin you'll pay for it. You can't have anything better for this money (about H-alfa).
WOW,,,,Thats the first thing i can say.For years i have being observing the sun with a regular film filter,,and was great but i wanted to move to an other level,Searched for reveiws, saved the money and finaly i decided to make my move,,The Coronado PST,was my choise. And again..WOW..My heart stoped for a few seconds, once i finaly got it focused and centered,,The veiw is just amaizing..at last i was able to see what many others did,and not pics,, was seeing the sun in Ha,,,saw prominenses with my own eyes, the details is just icredible.I called my son to look and his smile was as large as mine.It takes a while to adjust but after a few minutes i mastered it.For someone who may not know about telescopes,,could be a bit of a challenge. But over all,i am very happy with my decition. Now,,to save some money again to buy the double stack..Thank You Meade/Coronado.Read full review
The filter is very easy to use. Finding the sun is not a problem with the built in viewfinder. You can see lots of detail at the edges of the sun's disk. If you can find a used copy, the quality will be the same and you can save around $200. Check out cloudy nights classifieds.

This is a decent starter solar telescope. I do think you should consider upgrading the eyepieces. Higher powers and/or a barlow will help you see prominences.
