The Creative Sound Blaster ...X-Fi SB0460 PCI Sound Card is a great improvement over the built in sound chip in my Windows 8.1 Dell PC. I like the features in the Creative Audio Control Panel that installs along with the drivers (available for download from the Creative web site). I use the Entertainment Mode, but there are two other modes if needed, Game Mode and Audio Creation Mode. The SB0460 drivers also include an ASIO driver for improved Audio Recording. The X-Fi Crystalizer adds realism when listening to music through my headphones. Overall I am very pleased with this sound card.

The Card ...does work, without any software it is useless. Prior to the purchase I made sure Software and Drivers were available. The Speaker System CANNOT be used, ONLY the headphones!! I have the Creative 7.1 Surround Sound Speaker System, and witout the ability to see the jacks Once I got it I found it is not compatible, A BAD PURCHASE

This card was purchased to... replace one which had failed. Prior experience with this model card was the main reason for the purchase since it was known that the sound quality was very good and that it would work in my PC. Though providing excellent sound quality, the hardware could be better. One of these cards failed and a capacitor replacement restored it to working order. Another failed hard and was not repairable. Both failures happened after a few years of use. In summary, great sound performance but the hardware is not as reliable as expected.

I would rate myself as a ...good computer operator. I can operate AutoCAD 2010, Access 2010, Excell 2010, Word 2010 Powerpoint 2010, Notebook 2010, Outlook 2010, install/remove software, upgrade hardware, even manipulate BIOS. Can I write programs and manipilate my Registry? NO! I am running Windows 7 ULTIMATE 32 bit protected by Norton 360 v4.0. I bought this Sound Card all happy that I would be able to listen to my mp3's cryatal clear through X-Fi. Through my research Creative Labs said it was compatable with Windows 7. Microsoft said the SBO460 wasn't compatable with Windows 7. I bought it anyway thinking I Creative Labs knew something Microsoft didn't, boy was I ever wrong. I disabled the intigraded soundcard my motherboard came with first, then I installed the latest driver for my OS directly from Creative Labs website. After a few days/hours of operation "I noticed I couldn't get any sound for about 10 - 20 minutes after startup and Windows Media Player would FREEZE only when I played music." The only way I could shut down Media Player is by using the Windows Task Mannager. After about a week of monitoring the situation first updating the drivers then uninstalling them and reinstalling then after rebooting. I got the same results, "I couldn't get any sound for about 10 - 20 minutes after startup and Windows media player would FREEZE." I called Creative Labs Tech Support and they had me uninstall and reinstall everything by folowing the links they provided which were the same as I was doing anyway, "I couldn't get any sound for about 10 - 20 minutes after startup and Windows media player would FREEZE." I called Creative Labs back and they asked me to stop updating my system using Windows Update??? Yea, you heard me right. They didn't want me to follow Mocrosofts recomendations... I was about to give up and trash the card when I decided to try Winamp (a different music player). Now I still can't get any sound for about 10 - 20 minutes after startup but, "WINAMP DOESN'T FREEZE." Is Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi PCI (SB0460) Sound Card compatable with Windows 7 ULTIMATE 32 bit? NO!!!! Should I have trusted Microsoft about compatability with the Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi PCI (SB0460) Sound Card? YES!!!! Save yourself the hastle if you have Windows 7 Ultimate. Get a different sound card. Creative Labs technicians didn't know any more about how to fix the issue than I did. They only thing they provided me is reassurance that I did everything I could. They said there was nothing wrong wtih the card and wouldn't give me a RMA number to get it fixed. I am stuck with a computer that I can't play music of videos until my sound card wants to work (10 - 20 minutes later). This is not written out of anger. I am trying to help others from making the same mistake I did by trusting Creative Labs website about the SB0460 being compatable with Windows 7. It was misleading information on their part and should be reomved from their site or they should update their driver. Thank You, Alan
I re...ally like the creative labs Sound Blaster X-FI X-Treme Music sound card, ie: SB0460. It has many settings which enhance the sound, but most importantly it pairs up with the software Adobe Audition for recording. One additional plus is it has a function "What You Hear" which allows you to record what you hear. One additional note is I downloaded drivers from Creative Labs website for this card to use with Windows 10. They work fine, however I found that I had to save the drivers to a flash drive and disconnect from the internet before installing them. Once I did this everything worked fine.
