Very watchable cop show ( I can remember the or...iginal airing ) based on work by John Creasey. Loads of famous faces, some just starting out. James Beck, three years before Dad's Army, didn't get a credit. Fascinating to see parts of London long since redeveloped and wasn't it dirty!!

Gideon's way was made by ITC productions ba...ck in 1964 and all together 26 episodes were produced. The show had remained largely forgotten and unseen for over forty years until it's appearence on dvd in this superb box set. All the episodes are here and each one deals with the crimes of the day, many may find it tame compared with the crime of today, but this was 43 years ago and it shows just how much times have changed. John Gregson played Commander George Gideon and he portays his character flawlessly and effortlessly, primarily a film actor this was his first undertaking on television and the move most certainly paid off! I have to say that this series is one of the finest cult tv shows I have seen and I became a firm fan after my first viewing. I recommend this dvd set to all and especially lover's of classic crime which focuses more on the story than crime series do today!
HISTORIC T V SERIES OF THE 1960S.GROUNDBREA...KING THE MOTHER OF ALL MODERN CRIME DETECTION SHOWS.REMEMBER THIS PROGRAMME FROM MY CHILDHOOD .JOHN GREGSON WAS A FINE ACTOR .
This is a very entertaining show based on a se...ries of John Creasey novels. It's one of those ITC productions that is lower down the rung in terms of a following, in comparison to shows like The Champions, Randall and Hopkirk (deceased) and the Persuaders etc. John Gregson as Gideon isn't the most dynamic of actors but he gives his character a sort of old school dependability. The good thing about the series is that, aside from a great use of London locations, it does deal with some social issues such as an investigation into a National Front type political party and has solid stories such as'State Visit' with a brilliant performance by Alfie Bass as a concentration camp survivor- these help to offset the undeniably old-fashioned feel of the show. For anyone interested in vintage type this is an overlooked, quality series.
