I bought my Panasonic FZ35/38 as an upgrade for a Sony H5 I already owned. The Panasonic has many more useful features than the Sony, the most important is the 18x zoom lens, which brings everything that much closer!. It also has a small "joystick" to quickly access some of the basic ajustments such as aperture, shutter speed, ISO, Anti Shake, Picture size, White Balance, etc. In the menu there are many more settings which can be adjusted. It is useful to be able to adjust things like "noise," image sharpness, contrast and colour saturation. The FZ35 produces pictures of excellent quality in good light. You can detect a little noise when taking pictures in poor light, and at higher ISO settings. I have conducted many comparison tests between the FZ35/38 and my Sony H5. It is almost impossible to detect any difference in the images that were taken in good light. In poor light, the Panasonic does show a tiny amount of "noise." The FZ35/38 does take excellent photos of the Moon - much better than the Sony H5. I also purchased a Sony VCL-HGD1758 1.5x telephoto lens and an adaptor for the FZ35/38. Both cameras produce excellent images with this lens. The battery life is excellent on the Panasonic. I've found one fully charged battery lasts me three or four days of virtually constant use (using the viewfinder). The Sony's double "A" batteries only last for a day. As far as handling is concerned, the FZ35/38 feels a little light, and small in my (large) hands. It is comfortable to use though, and all the controls are easy to reach and use. The lens hood is a bit fiddly to attach, having a little screw to tighten. I tend to leave the lens cap attached when out and about, as it does give some protection to the lens. All in all, the FZ35/38 is a very good camera for the price, and is now the camera I use much more than the Sony. I would recommend this camera to anyone looking for more than a simple "point and shoot" camera. Starman 20102009 North Wales.Read full review
The camera is easy to use, very versatile, lots of settings for the novice and also manual setting for the more profesional. It was a very good price for what it is capable doing, picture quality is very good no matter what settings are used, flash is not required for most uses as it alters the exposure to correct the picture, infact I have not used the flash as yet indoors, as there was enough light. the battery lasts a long while , I have taken over 100 photoes and still does not require charging, the only trouble I have is, being able to use it, as my grandoughter keeps borowing it for her school progects. there are other cameras close to the lumix fz35/38 but they are either more expensive or lack all the functions, this camera also has a viewfinder which others do not always have. buy it you will love itRead full review
Hi, Purchased this camera as an upgrade from my Lumix TZ5 compact which I,ve had for a couple of years. Wanted to be a bit more creative with my photography so bought this camera as a bridge betwween compact and DSLR. The camera had some good reviews so thought I would give it a try and havn't been at all disappointed. Stylish looks with an excellent build quality, although a bit lighter in weight than I first expected, but this is very handy for one handed use, especially with the decent sized grip which is well designed and fits the palm and fingers comfortably. Controls are well positioned and easy to use, especially the zoom function which is controlled by a single left / right switch at the front of the shutter button. Zoom is quiet when operated and enlarges up to an impressive 18x. Have not used the digital zoom yet so cannot really comment on that. Picture playback is very easy and is displayed on the 2.7" LCD monitor built in to the back of the camera. Picture quality is very good with the 12.1 megapixel sensor, I usually shoot in JPEG but there is a facility to shoot in RAW image as well if required. Huge range of settings for this camera from intelligent auto through to a vast amount of manual settings. I also chose this camera because it comes with a single Li-ion battery pack instead of 4 x seperate AA battery's, makes charging a lot easier as it comes with a dedicated charger. Flash is a built-in pop up type which I have found adequate, but a hot shoe fitting would be an advantage. Still learning with this camera, and would definately give it the thumbs up.Read full review
I was looking for a decent quality camera and was undecided whether to purchase a DSLR or a bridge camera. Decided on the FZ35/38 after reading some very good reviews, and have to say I have not been dissapointed. The 'still' and video images are excellent and the superb zoom allows fantastic distance shots. Took some of the full moon a couple of weeks ago and they were great. Other than using 'point and shoots', I am a complete photgraphic novice, and although there are 'manual' options on this camera (for a later date!), if you just want a great quality 'snapshot' , put in AP mode and fire away! Although plastic, build quality is good and camera is comfortable to hold. Start up is vey quick, and mode dial has vey positive clicks. In my opinion, this camera for the price, is excellent value for money, and although when I purchased I was half planning on eventually moving onto a DSLR, I now don't think I will be bothering!Read full review
I bought this because I was looking for an SLR, and while it doesn't fit the traditional concept of an SLR - having interchangeable lenses - the single fixed lens is so flexible that I can't imagine wanting to carry different lenses about with me. The camera is now out of production, which seems an excellent way of buying good kit. The product itself is what I would have bought new a year before, but the price was a lot less than I would have paid for a current model. I'm still only a small way into learning how to use the camera; it seems, like so much today, to have a massive amount of computing power and has exercised the designers' imagination in finding things for the computer to do. The buying experience was exactly what it should have been. The product was ordered, the order confirmation/dispatch confirmation came soon after and the camera arrived well packed and in the manufacturer's packaging as described.Read full review
