I have a few albums by PJ Harv...ey, this one seems to be one that makes a lot of use of the piano rather than electric guitar. I must say it certainly sounds different to her usual style of music, but I think it is great album. Some of her other albums reminded me of the music of the Velvet Underground in sound, this is more rock /folk, if that makes sense. I think it is maybe my favourite album of hers that I have so far. Well worth buying, a great sound for a great price!

Great album. Usual PJH quality, underestimated must have album. Dark a...nd as catchy as other albums. Available with card box.
Having been given this CD for Christmas, I was looking f...orward to listening and was not disapointed: a strong, bare-bones kind of record with minimal instrumentation used to great effect. Vocals are always heartfelt, even painfully honest sounding and the choir parts, presumably all layered by Polly herself, are very effective and powerful. After 3 listens to the whole album, I still find the first 3 tracks stand out by a mile. After that the songs seem to be less convincing, although this may well be 'just me' and I'm willing to allow it to grow on me. I certainly keep wanting to listen to it. Definately recommended.
Not what you expect fr...om the wonderful P J Harvey. Quieter but not gentler in a rather surprising way. The sparse arrangement and acoustic, with unusual dry, almost hollow piano tone, give a sense of menace and leave the whole unsettling. Control and quiet lyrics somehow seem much more worrying than the more usual overdriven power and unrestrained oomph you'll know from her previous work. Less is more........a quieter PJ is even more intimidating and intense. Fascinating and highly unusual.
