I can understand people finding this raw early music unpleasant to the ears. Historically it is very important, bridging the period from "no melodeon accompaniment" to the full use of the instrument. It is often a reason why proficient musicians often hate this sort of 'unmusical' backing with no chance of playing sub-dominant chords and vamping between tonic and dominant whether this fits the tune or not. Primitive music forms are either appreciated by the listner or not. The only negative for me was that copious sleeve notes were in German.
