The brand was first launched in 1994 with the original PlayStation and has since grown to include both consoles and hand held video games, along with an online store and popular social gaming facility called the PlayStation Network.

The PlayStation Network consists of an online store for the purchase of games, music, films and PlayStation accessories, along with an online gaming community where gamers can challenge each other online and share their best gameplay videos.
There are around 110 million users on the PlayStation Network, and Sony encourages this kind of interaction with features such as the share function on the new PS4 controller, which allows you to share your best moments at the touch of a button.
Sony PlayStation consoles and handheld devices have distinctive controllers, with the symbols O X common to all systems. PlayStation controllers are also highly interactive, with the latest versions allowing you to steer, slide and shake your way around the games just by moving the controller.
Both the PS3 and PS4 are true multi media machines, with built-in Blu-ray players. All current PlayStation hardware has WiFi allowing internet connections and media streaming from services such as BBC iPlayer, Netflix, YouTube and Amazon Prime.
