Amazing little gadget with very sleek design but highly addictive.

Bought used Apple ipod touch 2nd Generation (8GB) for my son because it was a lot cheaper than a newer version. Overall he is very happy with it, however, getting started was not as straight forward as anticipated.
Minus points:
* In order to get the full use out of this ipod you need an Apple ID as well as a newer version of itunes than I had which, in return, could only be downloaded onto a relatively new computer/laptop.
* Battery life is average and very much depends on the kind of use (internet, videos and games are more 'hungry' than listening to music).
* No camera.
* Not bluethooth compatible with any other devices in our household, ie music has to be transferred via USB/computer.
* Internet access via Wifi can be slow, ie when trying to read emails.

Plus points:
* The design is very sleek with a nice big screen.
* Features are very easy and intuitive to use.
* Even the 8 GB provide enough memory to hold over 1000 songs.
* Google earth is amazing but the maps are even better!
* Touch screen works great and ipod seems very well manufactured.

Overall, after the initial hurdles had been overcome the ipod worked fine and has provided hours of fun. For c. £50 purchase price this is a excellent entry level ipod. As a parent I feel I ought to add that however amazing this little gadget is, it is also very addictive. And because of its size children can easily sneak off into their bedroom and play games/watch videos without the parent/carer being aware of it.

By far, one of the best, only surpassed by latest expensive iPod gens.

Still one of the best buys anyone can make in its category.
The Pros:
- Superb Battery Life
- Hi-End Audio Quality, even with standard headphones
- Huge Range of Acessories still available
- Very good Internet browsing capability and complete e-mail support
- Excellent Wi-Fi stability
- Reasonably fast even compared to latest iPod generations

The Cons:
- To sync your music/photos/videos you are obliged to use iTunes, it doesn't connect as a USB storage device
- Latest update for this Gen is iOS 4.2.1 and apps available on iStore are already asking for iOS 4.3 or above
- Although well built, it's highly recommended to put at leat a silicon case to protect it because it gets easily scratched
- As in all Apple devices, the battery is not easily replaceable as it's embedded on the device, so extra care is needed with charging cycles (complete discharge before pluging it again) or it will severely affect battery life.

Very versatile not just an MP3, much more.

Very versatile not just an MP3, much more. You can play games watch videos surf the net and so much more. the user interface is the best on the market and a joy to use I would give it 8 out of 10. I have given it 8 out of 10 because i have had it a short while and now realise what this little machine is capable of, Buy a bigger one if you can afford it. Once you have got used to the touch you will find you dont have quite enough space with 8gb, save up a bit longer and get a 32gb that way you can keep every thing on there and you wont be constantly changing stuff over on itunes. I went and bought a 32gb soon after and it is all the machine you ever want. went away for a week with work and loaded the 32gb with 10 films a load of games and nearly 20gb of music it kept me entertained for the entire time i was away. I also have bought the av cables so i pluged it into the tv in the hotel and used it a video player. you can still do this with the 8gb but you have to be much more selective with your films and music. that is the only reason i gave this machine 8 out of 10. But because I bought both from ebay I have got them both for less than the price of a new 32gb one.Read full review...

The best pressie ever!

Love it love it love it!
BEWARE! This is not a technical review - but one from a very happy Mummy !

A present from my son to enable me to listen to books, it does so much more. I used to for e-mails and banking when holidaying abroad, I have hours and hours of music on it, can make notes on it..........then there's games......and loads and loads of free apps. Light weight and easy for Mum's fat fingers to use I'd recommend this little darling for painfree usage by anybody who might be only on the perimeter of the technological age.
My best toy/present ever
Thank you Matthew!

Not as good as it could be

Well I decided to buy this ipod because iphones are way too expensive. I already had a reasonable and reliable phone. Therefore the ipod does almost all an iphone can do without the phone element.

The volume could do with being higher. I got an external speaker unit to combat that problem.

However, the battery seems very lacking in stability and needs recharging frequently/daily.

The unit itself has locked up on many occassions. Fortunately it resets quite easily. I found that probably a leather case with magnetic latches I bought for it may cause these crashes as it hasn't locked up over the past 24+ hours since I took it out of the case.

In general it is a bit dissapointing but I've adapted to its little problems and it is otherwise a good little gadget. I watch films on it mainly and they are of fine quality and a reasonable size to watch. Sound in the earphones is quite good too. Not having a built in mic is a pain for some apps that need one.

Brilliant product, absolutely love it

I brought this product because I wanted something that could be used to store music and be able to play games as well, the ipod dose exactly that. There are so many apps that you can get and a lot of memory space to store music.

The only thing I dislike about this product is the fact the battery life is not too great when you begin to use the internet and apps. Compare to other products there is a variety of things you can use the ipod for.

Good apple product

I know the item was "Graded Product" bat the back of the unit was very very badly scratched and that was not in the listing. However; the unit charged from a completely flat battery within 3 hours and has been used constantly as the proud owner received it for her birthday. I also like the fact that it has a 12 month warranty attached to it.

Over all I am pleased with it and it is well received by the birthday girl.

Apple Ipod touch 2nd Generation 8GB

I love how much you can fit onto the Ipod and I love that you can add games and whatnot. I bought it because I wanted music with me constantly and my boyfriend found this and it was one of the few on ebay that he couldn't see a problem with... I was a little annoyed when it arrived because it didn't have the charger wire with it, so I had to go out and buy one, but after that it was brilliant. The "Stand-by" button is a bit stiff and it seems to run out of battery rather quickly, but other than that it works wonderfully. I've grown so attatched to it in the month that I've had it with me whenever I leave the house. It's definitely worth buying and I would buy it again.Read full review...
