Kent - South Texas Rhythm 'n' Soul Revue 2Hits aren't the name of the game here, nor are there too many household names: Big Walter Price (not Big Walter Horton), Johnny Adams, Johnny Copeland, and Barbara Lynn (the latter represented with a demo of "You'll Lose a Good Thing") are the names that could possibly spark recognition, but even these are better-known by aficionados, not trainspotters.

Tony Rounce - Northern Soul's Classiest Rarities, Vol. 5Arriving five years after Ace's last collection of swinging, sophisticated Northern Soul rarities, the 2015 release Northern Soul's Classiest Rarities, Vol. Happily, that's not necessarily true. Northern Soul has long been a curious situation, where collectors prize rarities but want everything to conform to a certain style, but it's a paradox that drives the entire Northern Soul scene and it still kicks up enjoyable music, as it does here.

Tony Rounce - Reaching Out: Chess Records at FAME StudiosChess Records called Chicago home but the label often looked elsewhere for singers and singles. Usually, this amounted to some variation on direct licensing -- independent record producers or studio owners would send sides to Chess, hoping for release -- but between 1967 and 1969, Chess sent a number of its artists down to FAME Studios in Muscle Shoals in Alabama.£12.66From GermanyFree P&P

NEW BREED WORKIN' BLUES WITH A RHYTHM Various Artists NEW 60s SOUL R&B CD (KENT)As well as new finds, we have looked through our collection assembled over the last forty years of catalogues. We found a rich vein of New Orleans R&B in the AFO vaults; we feature Nookie Boy’s 1962 release ‘I’ve Got A Feeling For You Baby’ alongside Robbie Lee’s ‘Let Me Know’, which only emerged during our fabulous 1990s “Gumbo Stew” CD series and a totally unknown tape of ‘Lucky Girl’ by Joan Dovalle which had evaded the earlier compilations.
Jackson George & Dan Greer - George Jackson and Dan Greer at GoldwaxAce has spent a considerable amount of energy building the reputation of songwriter/singer George Jackson, issuing his complete Fame Recordings in a series of three separate volumes, and they've also dipped into Dan Greer's work via a 2013 compilation but the 2015 set George Jackson and Dan Greer at Goldwax covers a fascinating little-known chapter in the two writers' careers.£11.71From GermanyFree P&P
Kent - ModernismAnybody who has paid attention to either scene will find the form of Modernism familiar, even if the particulars aren't. As always, rarities are prized within this variation of uptempo, uptown soul, the obscurities keeping common grooves sounding fresh.£12.35From GermanyFree P&P
ETTA JAMES Etta Is Betta Than Evvah & Bonus Tracks NEW 70s SOUL R&B CD (KENT)• The self-produced opener, 'Woman (Shake Your Booty)', is a funky rewrite of a song Etta had recorded, as 'W.O.M.A.N', for Modern in 1955 and again for Chess in 1971. 'Only A Fool' and Randy Newman's 'Leave Your Hat On' had been released previously on 1973's "Etta James" album.
ETTA JAMES Queen Of Soul with Bonus Tracks NEW 60s SOUL CD (KENT) CLASSIC R&BNot previously available in its entirety on CD, 1964’s aptly titled “Queen Of Soul” LP was produced in the main by Billy Davis, the A&R man who helped transform Chess Records from renowned purveyors of 1950s blues and R&B into one of the hippest soul outlets of the 1960s.
John Ridley - Los Angeles Soul: Kent-Modern's Black Music Legacy 1962-1971This 2015 collection rounds up 24 attempts, not all of which were released at the time. Through a combination of licensing and recording at their own studios, Kent-Modern dabbled in pretty much every soul sound of the '60s: a bit of breezy uptown soul, plus grooving pop from the Motor City and Chicago, but a greater concentration on sounds emanating from the South.

NEW BREED BLUES WITH BLACK POPCORN Various Artists NEW CD (KENT) R&B SOULNEW BREED BLUES WITH BLACK POPCORN. • Inevitably it is the debutantes that will steal the show and attract the more traditional R&B fan. From Los Angeles there is an Adolph Jacobs unreleased Class recording ‘Cannibal Stew’ that not only sounds like the Coasters but could possibly have them singing behind him: he was their guitarist at the time.
Kent Dance - Modernists: A Decade of Rhythm and Soul DedicationIt's a wonder that the title "Modernists" hasn't already been used for a collection of mod-related music, but Ace's 2015 set, Modernists: A Decade of Rhythm & Soul Dedication, lives up to this worthy name.£12.34From GermanyFree P&P

The Fantastic Four - Lost Motown AlbumNo definitive answer exists, but all signs point to Motown deciding they'd rather push lead singer Sweet James Epps as a solo act than the group itself (a big clue is the title of the album, which pulls the focus directly upon the lead singer), but scrapping the record derailed momentum not just for the Fantastic Four, but for Epps himself, who never became a solo act.£13.87From GermanyFree P&P
