Women's Wide Brim Hats

A woman's wide brim hat is the perfect finishing touch to your elegant outfit – whatever the season. Perhaps you are visiting the races or a wedding, or maybe you are going for a winter walk? There are a wide variety of wide brim hats to suit every occasion.

Materials

Straw - One of the more traditional styles of wide brim hats, a wide brim straw hat is the perfect accessory to wear in the warm summer months. Ideal for sunbathing on the beach or visiting hot climates, the straw material will allow your head to breathe. They are incredibly lightweight, so are a great option for when you need to wear a hat for long periods of time. They typically come in the traditional sandy colour of straw, but are available in a wide variety of colours.

Sinamay - Made from the stalks of the abaca tree, Sinamay is a very tough material which can be made into a wide variety of shapes and colours. This is the perfect material for creating fascinators, which need to have a stiff fabric to hold their incredible shapes. It is a long-lasting and robust fabric.

Felt - This fabric is a material used for autumnal and winter hats. As it is a thick and soft material, it will keep your head warm whilst also being stylish. It is a material which looks like wool, but is a lot cheaper to produce. It can take on a huge variety of colours and holds a shape well – felt hats tend to be quite wide as they can hold this form.

100% cotton - Another great option for the summer months, 100% cotton hats will allow you to keep cool. Cotton can be dyed any colour you may require, and can also be printed with patterns. Cotton is not a very strong material, so it is unable to hold some shapes and so the brim may not be as wide as some of the other materials.

100% wool - Wide brim hats made from wool are the best option for those chilly winter months. Mostly using sheep's wool, these hats will keep you warm and cosy. They can be more expensive than other materials, but they will last for many years, and will hold their shape well.
