Like the lute playing, but not sure that Sting's vocal style suits the genre - an I generally like Sting. Still, if it introduces the music of Dowland to a wider audience it has served some purpose.

Used to have this on vinyl (in the wallet shaped sleeve, but sadly without the billion dollar note) and bought the CD to see if it was as good as I remember it (more than 25 years have gone past since then). Listening again I was struck by how well produced it is and what a good songwriter Cooper is - it still sounds fresh and if you'd never heard it you wouldn't immediately date it as 1973. Not quite on a par with "God in Three Persons" or the "River of Crime" but sits nicely in between, and if you like those albums you'll like this one. The subject matter will not be to everyone's taste, but then it does carry a Parental Guidance warning.
