17" Laptop Screens and LCD Panels
Laptop screens and LCD panels are fragile and may be easily damaged if they are not treated with care. Fortunately, there are many 17" replacement screens and panels available, should an accident occur.
Full screen laptop replacement units are available as well as LCD panels on their own. It is important to know your laptop's model number and the cable layout of the screen before you purchase a new one. If you are in doubt about either, consult your laptop's original documentation first.
Finding the right replacement screen
When searching for the replacement screen or LCD panel for your laptop , make sure that you know the specific model number of your laptop. The manufacturer of your machine will make a variety of other models, meaning that there will be several types of replacement screen and they may not necessarily fit yours.
Check your laptop for the model number, which should be either below the screen or on the underside of the laptop. There is likely to be a label with the model number printed on it, as well as the serial number and various others. This will also be in the manufacturer's documentation accompanying the laptop at purchase.
Check the cables
You may notice that some replacement laptop screens will have either one or two cables which attach to the main section of the laptop. You will need to know how many your current screen has so you can find the correct one to fit your particular machine.
Before you buy a 17" laptop screen or LCD panel, you should remove the old one and examine it. The screen will have two cables if your model was made before 2010 and has a backlit fluorescent LCD. Laptops made afterward 2010 with LED-lit LCDs will only have one cable as standard.
