Go back in history and explore the wide range of Regency and Victorian antique desks.
Regency Antique Desks
Antique desks from the Regency period drew on Greek, Egyptian and Roman influences that can be seen in animal-themed metallic decorations such as lion's paws.
While Regency antique desks were mostly made from oak and mahogany, rosewood started to become a popular material during this period. Rectangular shapes were the most common and multiple drawers and ample storage were popular design features. Rolltops and brass detailing are also common.
Victorian Antique Desks
Antique desks from the Victorian era are inspired by gothic design and are easily identified by their exaggerated curves, heavy proportions and dark woods. Victorian antique desks tend to be rectangular or circular in shape, with some styles having leather material on the flat surface.
You'll find a range of styles with several draws just below the top of the desk with brass or wooden pull handles. Carved or reeded desk legs and brass castors were typical of the era with some featuring intricate floral motifs. There are also larger, bulkier pieces without casters that feature tilted table tops and roll top finishes.
