  • JOHN LEECH. Three original pen and ink drawings.

JOHN LEECH. Three original pen and ink drawings. Paper size 15 x 10 inches. Images 10 x 7 inches. All on Whatman paper, one with watermark for 1835. One is signed lower left J Leech and has a reference to Punch Magazine to which he contributed. All unframed. I bought these as part of a job lot of 16 pieces about 20 years ago at auction near Manchester as by John Leech, but I can't find any images or prints of them anywhere. I feel that perhaps they were rejected by Punch and never etched or printed. They are definitely original drawings not prints or copies. I'm happy to negotiate with the buyer re the other 13 which are not signed (one appears to be initialed J L ) or I will offer them again in small lots on eBay. Sixteen at once is a bit much!

  • Antique Drawing: Spaniels flushing out Pheasant: Pencil, Pen, Ink & Watercolour

This sketch is a highly finished work in mixed media, with the dogs and pheasant portrayed in sepia ink with watercolour, and the landscape behind drawn skillfully in pencil.  A typically rural scene which might date from the Victorian era, although this is speculation on my part.  The paper is spotted due to age, although the modern frame appears in reasonable condition.  The picture is glazed, and without a mount.  Please note that the white spot in the first photo originates from the camera flash. Dimensions:  Frame:  11 inches x 9 inches.

An original early 19th-century graphite drawing, Spaniel Dog Jumping Over a Fence. An attentively executed graphite drawing of a spaniel dog running to jump over a fence in a wooded pasture. Jane appears to have moved in upper class circles - outside of many family members whose names can be traced in the book, it also includes works by high members of the Royal Navy, the children of wealthy landowners from Scotland and Wales, as well as a banker from Brighton, who later became infamous for swindling his investors in a widely publicised court case in 1842.

  • Portrait of Delphine - 18th-century French Rococo black chalk drawing

The light tonal key is also characteristically Rococo – the buff coloured paper allowing for a lightness of touch with minimal black chalk marks, stumping (smudging of the black chalk) and mere touches of white chalk for highlights.
