The Blackberry Torch 9800 smartphone has been created by Blackberry to push the boundaries of smartphone technology. This unique design has an improved interface and features a full qwerty keyboard and a touch screen, and provides an improvement in the multimedia and browsing experience. It is the first phone where the OS 6 operating system has been used.

Features of the Blackberry 9800

The device has many features. It supports 3G, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and GPS. Other features include the smart dialling, visual voice mail, voice-activated dialling, conference calls, chat, text and multimedia messaging. The Blackberry messenger allows live connection with other clients such as Google Talk, Yahoo, or Windows Live. They all have been preloaded on the phone. There are also a wide variety of very useful apps particularly for the business professional. One such app is the Blackberry Enterprise Server (BES) that allows synchronization with businesses for contacts, access to your company's files, tasks, etc.

Design characteristics

The aim of Blackberry when creating the 9800 was to provide users a unique experience combining full keyboard practicability with touch screen and trackball. Overall, the touch screen is quite responsive. Just beneath are located the standard Blackberry parts. A slider mechanism opens and hides the keyboard. The smartphone design can be described as modern and stylish, and the model is a combination of the Blackberry Storm and the Blackberry Bold. It has a height of 4.4 inches and is 2,4 inches wide. Hence it can be placed with ease inside a pant pocket. The Torch has a very bright and clear display. The 3.2 inch half-VGA screen has a 480 x 360 resolution perfect for text reading, browsing, viewing photos or videos.

Torch 9800 Interface and Software

The operating system can be said to incorporate a lot of new items compared with other Blackberry models. It is the first time Blackberry introduced the OS 6 operating system. The new system has a new home screen that has a quick access area showing elements such as battery life, the date, wireless connections, alert notifications, etc. With the touch screen feature, it allows to swipe in different directions for accessing apps or five categories of content: Downloads, Favourites, Media, Frequent, or All.

Generally, the Blackberry Torch 9800 smartphone can be considered to be among Blackberry's most well adapted mobile phones for multimedia and browsing experience. Many new elements have been introduced in comparison to previous models notably the Blackberry Storm or Gold.
