About Brownies, Guides and Rainbows

Brownies is a Guiding organisation for little girls aged seven to ten years old. It was founded by Lord Baden Powell in 1914 (and was originally called Rosebuds) whose aim was to complete the guiding group for girls in scouting. The 'Brownies' name came after the story 'The Brownies' which referenced children being helpful. Brownies work towards interest and adventure badges and when they reach the age of 10, they can become Girl Guides (which were founded in 1910 by Robert Baden-Powell) where they take part in various activities and work towards challenge badges.

For little girls who are too young to become a Brownie, then can opt to become a rainbow, which is for girls aged between 5 and 7 years old, where they can take part in various activities.
