A rotund lady wearing a tri-corn hat and a voluminous dress holds a bottle of ale in one hand and an ale glass in the other. There is a very small chip to the rim of her tri-corn hat (see photo 5) otherwise the Toby Jug is in very good condition.
This character Toby jug depicts Mr. Pickwick from the novel by Charles Dickens. It is made in earthenware with good and detailed all round hand painted colouring. Made by Parr of Staffordshire. The jug is in excellent condition with just a few tiny paint rubs.
A good antique English pottery Staffordshire Toby Jug, seated in a pale pink coat with foaming ale jug and pipe, with a spotted ruddy face. generally a good Jug in good condition. Circa early 19th century.
For sale are 2x 'Mr Pickwick' hand painted Toby Jugs, 1 large and 1 small. They are unboxed, I found them in the loft and they are great condition. I am reluctant to post so collection is preferred to save any damage in transit. Collection is from Shepton Mallet.
