Flip Video Camcorder
Handy pocket sized video cameras that were produced between 2006 and 2011, a Flip camcorder is an economical alternative to higher priced smart phones with HD video functionality.
Flip video camcorders are ideal for bloggers, vloggers or YouTubers, especially if you're just getting started and don't want to invest in expensive equipment.
Want to get your kids into film but don't want them to have a smartphone ? A Flip camcorder could be the perfect solution. Also as you need to connect it to a device to share the film, it could be easier to keep tabs on what they're filming and sharing with other people.
Different types of Flip camcorder
There are three main models of Flip camcorder: Mino HD, Ultra HD and Slide HD. Flip camcorders are easy to use as they have a simple interface, not many buttons and minimal menus. You simply download recorded footage to a computer or laptop using the built-in USB connector that flips out of the device.
Depending on the age or make of the model, Flip camcorders can record between 30 minutes and four hours of HD footage. For four hour video look out for the MinoPro (MP2240) and the Slide HD (S1240).
The video resolution depends on the age and make of the camcorder. Newer models record 1280 x 720 resolution, while older Flip camcorders record 640 x 480 resolution.
Advantages of Flip camcorders
Although smartphones take great quality video, there are advantages to buying a Flip device. Firstly they're a cost effective way to make films, as Flip camcorders cost much less than most smartphones.
Flip camcorders are great for filming underwater too. So if you're a scuba diver or snorkeler, invest in a waterproof case and record those dives for the fraction of the price you'd pay for specialist underwater filming equipment.
