Leica Snap On Camera Lens Hoods
Whether you've just bought your first DSLR camera or you've been using a digital camera for years, one of the most common accessories recommended by photographers is a snap on camera lens hood. Leica produces a range of camera hoods to fit different lenses.
Why use a lens hood?
There's no law that says that you have to use a lens hood, but many photographers do. A camera hood is designed to block out any unnecessary light that might get into your lens from the sides and reduce the quality of your photographs. This can be especially useful if you're shooting towards the light and using a lens hood can also help to reduce flare.
A secondary use for a lens hood is helping to protect your expensive lens. As the hood sticks out from your lens, it reduces the chances of accidental scratches or touches to the front. It is also much cheaper to have to buy a new lens hood should you accidentally drop or bash your camera against something.
Sizes and shapes
Choosing the right size camera hood for you will depend on the focal length of the lens that you're using. If you have more than one lens, then you'll need a different hood for each. Leica camera hoods are usually circular or petal shaped but you can also get rectangular ones. For ease of packing, you can usually put them on your camera backwards during storage.
