Loafers for Men

When you want to pop on your shoes and go, loafers are the ideal choice. Loafers are simple slip-on shoes that can be casual through to smart.

Perfect for off-duty men's wardrobes, loafers are flat and understated; a style that has always been popular throughout the decades.

Styles

The most commonly know loafer style is the Penny Loafer. Defined by the strap across the tongue, Penny Loafers are so named because of the cutout lip-shaped detail that was thought to be the perfect shape to hold a penny.

From preppy to professional, the Penny Loafer is a popular style that is available in a variety of colours and designs. The leather style perfectly pairs with suits whereas a more casual loafer can be mixed and matched with jeans or chinos.

In 1940s, the Penny Loafer was a popular smart casual style but many wanted a similar design that was suitable for the boardroom. A man named Paul Lukas invented the tassel loafer after he purchased a pair of Oxford shoes with tassels at the ends of the laces and loved them so much that he asked a shoemaker to design a pair of tasselled loafers for him.

Since then, the tassel loafer has been a somewhat smarter sibling of the Penny Loafer, ideal for easy elegance. However, it is easy nowadays to find even more casual loafers for lounging, walking and leisure wear.

Material

Traditionally loafers are leather or suede for a quality and smart finish but they are also available in canvas, mesh and faux leather.
