Dog Collars

There are dog collars for every breed and size, in a range of materials and at prices to suit all budgets.

Whether you want something that is purely functional or to fashionably dress your dog, there’s a dog collar to suit you and your pet.

Benefits of a dog collar

  • It’s the law – in the UK, any dog in a public place must wear a collar with the name and address of the owner engraved or written on it (or engraved on an attached tag)
  • Identification – should your dog go missing, if it’s wearing a collar (with your contact details on it), then it is easy for you to be contacted and be reunited
  • Visibility – when walking your dog in the dark mornings and evenings, you can use a reflective tag and collar so that your dog can be seen
  • Training – collars are an invaluable aid when training your dog, whether for normal walking, obedience or recall and distance training

Types and features of dog collars

There are many types of dog collars which can have a variety of different features, including:

  • Reflective – allows your dog to be more easily seen in dim light or in the dark
  • Flashing – again allows your dog to be more easily seen
  • Personalised – having your contact details on the collar means you don’t need an additional identification tag
  • Adjustable – it’s important that you have the right size of collar (make sure you can slip two fingers between the collar and your dog’s neck) as dogs can gain and lose weight. Puppies grow up and chances are you’ll have to buy a new collar or two as they get bigger
  • Quick-release buckles – should your dog’s collar get caught on something, this type of buckle allows the collar to undo when enough pressure is exerted and stopping any serious injury to your dog
  • Materials – collars can be made of leather (real or faux), nylon, fabric or metal and come in many different colours
  • Fashion accessories – collars can come with all sorts of additions from bandanas to sparkling crystals
