Classed as a supermini, the Renault Clio was launched in 1990 and has twice been voted European Car of the Year. With five generations to date, all have front-engine, front-wheel-drive. There are a wide range of new and used Renault Clios available on eBay.

Achieving a 5-star Euro NCAP rating, the 5th-gen Renault Clio comes with emergency brake assist, ABS, and LED headlights as standard. Models come with Anti Intruder automatic door locking, while optional features include a 360-degree camera as part of the Easy Park Assist system. Depending on the fuel variant, petrol-driven Renault Clios have roughly 390 litres of storage capacity in the boot and diesel versions around 370 litres. According to the manufacturer, this difference is due to the space required for the AdBlue tank in diesel models. As well as comfortably seating up to three passengers, all Renault Clio rear seats can be folded down in a 60/40 configuration to accommodate larger cargo. In both diesel and petrol models, this is a total of 1,069 of storage space.

Since its debut, the Renault Clio has been released in the following formats:

• Clio I: Manufactured until 1998, this version was offered as a 3- or 5-door hatchback with 5-speed manual, or a choice between 3- and 4-speed automatic transmission.
• Clio II: Produced until 2012 as a 3- or 5-door hatchback and a 4-door sedan, this release had the option of a 5-speed manual or 4-speed automatic transmission.
• Clio III: From 2005-2012, options for this variant were 3- or 5-door hatchback, as well as a 5-door estate version. Transmissions were either 5- or 6-speed manual and 4-speed automatic.
• Clio IV: In production since 2012, this variant comes as a 5-door hatchback or estate, with a 5-speed manual or 6-speed automatic transmission.
• Clio V: Launched in 2019, this model is only available as a 5-door hatchback. Transmission options, however, are for 5-speed manual, 6-speed automatic, or multimode CVT.

The diesel variant of the Renault Clio IV has two options for its 1.5 cDi straight-4 engine: 75 HP or 90 HP. The petrol version, however, has four:

• 1.2-litre: 16 valve, straight-4 (75 HP).
• 0.9-litre: turbocharged 12 valve, straight-3 (90 HP).
• 1.2-litre: turbocharged (120 HP).
• 1.6-litre: turbocharged, straight-4 (197 HP).

A six-speed dual-clutch transmission is available in models produced after 2013.
