Round Camera Viewfinders and Eyecups

Viewfinders generally come in two kinds, these are optical and electronic. An optical viewfinder (OVF) uses mirrors and prisms in which to view the scene before you. Whilst an electronic viewfinder (EVF) uses a screen display on the back of the camera through which to view the landscape or portrait scene your camera is aimed at.

Types of camera viewfinders and eyecups

A right angle viewfinder is designed to make it easy to take the type of shot you need by allowing you to adjust your camera angle. For example, it's ideal for shooting directly upwards, without needing to be lying flat on your back when photographing directly upwards in a tight angle. Many right angled viewfinders feature multiple eyepieces and can also be adjusted to both the left and right, as well as to point directly upwards. They also typically come with a rubber eyecup to make it comfortable to look through the viewfinder.

Viewfinder eyecups are designed to provide extra comfort for your eyes as you take your shot. They are typically rubberised, which reduces the pressure in and around your eye. This extra cushioning is also ideal for people who wear glasses. These eyecups are easy to fit by connecting them to your viewfinder's eyepiece.

Other types of viewfinder feature an oversized hood design. This provides extra comfort by fitting over a large area of the eye and are especially convenient to those who wear glasses. The extra large design of these large eyecup hoods also enhance your photography shooting by blocking out ambient light. Some of these viewfinder mounts are specially shaped for both left and right eye shooting by being easy to rotate to accommodate people who are left or right eye shooters. They can also be found with hypoallergenic silicone for comfortable all day shooting that prevents irritation.
