Sega Mega Drive Consoles

When the 16bit Sega Mega Drive was first launched in the UK in 1990, it was an instant success, selling out on pre-sales alone. Hardly surprising considering its advanced graphics and gameplay, which had previously only been seen in the amusement arcades. The rival Super Nintendo was still two years away, so the Sony Mega Drive quickly became the dominant system, ultimately selling 30million units worldwide.

Ground Breaking Gaming

Many seasoned gamers will fondly remember the groundbreaking arrival of the Mega Drive, with its colourful graphics, fast action and quirky theme songs, Some of which even became chart hits. You can relive those golden days with your own Mega Drive, packed with all your favourite classic games.

Classic Games

Many of the Sony Mega Drives available come boxed with your old favourites, such as Sonic the Hedgehog, Mortal Kombat, Street Fighter, Ecco the Dolphin and Joe Montana Football. Some consoles even have games built in, with up to 80 games included in the console. If you have a favourite classic game, look out for boxed sets featuring the character or graphics from the game.

25th Anniversary Sets

To celebrate 25 years of the Sony Mega Drive, the company released 25th-anniversary box sets in 2015, featuring all the classic games. As well as providing a slice of nostalgia for all Mega Drive fans, these sets are also highly collectable in their own right.

Sony Genesis

When shopping on eBay for a Sony Mega drive, you should also look out for consoles labelled Sony Genesis. Sony Genesis was the name used for the Mega Drive in North America and these units are exactly the same. You should, however, always check that your console is PAL compatible for UK TV screens and doesn't use the alternative NTSC system found in Japanese models.
