  • New listingRARE ANTIQUE 19TH CENTURY STAFFORDSHIRE PEARLWARE FIGURE OF BEN BACKSTAY SAILOR

A very nice rare example of an 19th century Staffordshire figure of a Ben Backstay  in very good condition for its age with minimal paint wear. No damage such as major chips cracks or repairs. Some crazing consistent with its age. After further research and looking at Portrait Figures reference book this figure is a version of the Ben Backstay figures produced in the early 1800’s. The character is based on a lithograph of T P Cooke as Ben Backstay sailor by Orlando Hodsonand is quite a rare figure. The figure stands nearly 9.5 inches tall. Please see photos as they form part of the description. Due to the fragile nature of the piece it will be well packed in a larger than needed box.
