About Communion Tokens
Most people today don't need to pay to enter church, but an old custom that began in the 1500s produced some rare church artefacts that are collector's items today. Communion tokens were given to church members in order to partake in the Lord's Supper; you had to have this special token to gain admission. Scottish communion tokens are the most common found on eBay, due to the fact that this custom was prevalent in Scotland. If you look closely at Scottish communion tokens, many of them have Bible verses inscribed on them, and they may also feature the name or initials of the church the tokens were meant for. The oldest communion tokens are the hardest to find, and are worth the most money. Collectors enjoy seeking tokens from all over the world, as well as from various years.
