Eyewitness has been a popular natural history show within the UK since it was first broadcast back in 1994. Produced by the BBC and DK Vision, the show is based around the very well known series of Dorling Kindersley books.
Each episode of the show's three series was focused on a single subject within the overall topic of natural science, with the different programmes encompassing a broad range of areas within that field. Topics covered everything from the age of the dinosaurs to the world of plants. Some of the other main topics covered include primates, mythical monsters, human beings, the oceans, skeletons and sharks. A total of 39 different shows were made for the main three series, with three specials - the Making of Eyewitness, the Making of Eyewitness Living Earth and the Making of Eyewitness Worlds â also created.
Though the last series of the show was back in 1997, it continues to be popular amongst children looking to learn more and is sometimes used as an education tool in schools. Part of this is due to the fact that the show was released on DVD, enabling it to be enjoyed at any time. Because Eyewitness DVD costs are now relatively low, it's possible to pick up all three series of the show for a price that offers real value for money. Whether it's for use either at a school (videos are a great way to break up the day) or at home (educational TV shows are a real secret weapon for parents looking to sneak a bit of extra learning into the day!) thereâs something for everyone.
