About Harry Potter Gifts
Harry Potter is a character created by British author J K Rowling. The seven novels and eight film adaptations focus on a young schoolboy wizard and his adventures at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry with best friends and fellow students Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger.
The Warner Brothers film series is the highest grossing of all time, giving rise to more than 400 items of official Harry Potter merchandise including licensed computer games and an iPod. Collectables include dolls and action figures and collectors' cards, and toys include licensed board games and dress-up costumes.
The official Harry Potter merchandise produced by Warner Bros falls into two distinct types. A raft of collectables based on the books was produced before the first film adaptation, Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone, was finished, and these owe more to the descriptions in the books than to the appearance of the characters as played in the films. Harry Potter, for example, is usually depicted in the artwork, most of which was the work of Warner Bros artist Fred Bode, with a red striped shirt under his wizard's robes. Most of these items were released in 2000 and 2001, and bear a Warner Bros 2000 copyright. Although these images were also used later on, most merchandise references the appearance and attire of the actors in the film adaptations. They may have particular appeal to collectors.
Other Harry Potter gifts could include copies of the books themselves, in hardback, paperback, box set, e-book or audiobook format, copies of the films on DVD or Blu-Ray, or tickets to visit the authorised Harry Potter attractions.
