Rated by the American Film Institute the second greatest film hero of all time, the Indiana Jones character made archaeology sexy and won the hearts of generations of cinema-goers. Now the subject of comic books and action figurines, Indiana Jones did not originate from a comic or novel, but was director George Lucas’s invention, paying homage to 1930s film serials.
