If there's a list anywhere that details 'absolutely adorable toys', then you can be sure that the Me to You Bears are on it. The range of teddy bears are made by the Carte Blanche Greetings company, and have been continually popular throughout the UK for a number of years now.
The range was first brought to life in 1987 by the English illustrator and cartoonist Michael Payne, who approached Carte Blanche Greetings directly with a sketch of his Tatty Teddy character, which he signed using the pen-name 'Miranda'. (It was named after a houseboat on which Payne had stayed with his family). The company liked the design enough to develop it into a full range of soft toys. In subsequent bears, the 'Miranda' signature was replaced by a simple 'Tatty Teddy x' or T x'.
Since Payne himself left his employment at Carte Blanche, the range has been further developed by a number of different artists, with three main people - Steve Mort-Hill, Ceri Lewis and Tom Barnfield - currently in charge of design.
Though the Bears were only available in the UK for a number of years, in December 2011 the Douglas Company were finally licensed to sell the brand in both the US and Canada.
Me to You Bears are available all over the web and at a number of different price points, and arenât typically expensive, unless theyâre a me to you rare item. It's also possible to find a number of other products in the range, including figurines, cards, mugs and even wedding accessories!
