The Miele motto has always been "Immer Besser", which means "Forever Better", and this encapsulates the brand's philosophy of producing innovative, exceptionally made products.
Founded in 1899 by Carl Miele and Richard Zinkann, Miele is still independently owned and run by the Miele and Zinkann families. Miele was founded by a farmer's son, so it's not surprising that their first appliances, produced at the turn of the 20th century, were cream separators and butter churners. Washing machines followed, and later a whole range of useful products for the home. Miele was brought to Great Britain by Karl Heinz Wedekind, who set up the company's first British showroom in London's Great Portland Street.
Miele has production plants all over Europe and in China, including eight in Germany. They produce a diverse range of high quality kitchen appliances that are built to stand the test of time. This range includes sleek chrome ovens and hobs, coffee machines, microwaves, refrigerators and wine coolers. They also make excellent products for other areas of the home, including lightweight vacuum cleaners that are perfect for pet owners.
It's reassuring to know that Miele has picked up many accolades over the years. In 2007, the company was given an award for being Germany's most successful company, beating stiff competition from the likes of Porsche. The company has also been honoured as Best Domestic Appliance Brand in the UK by Which? three times. Perhaps the greatest endorsement, however, came from Apple founder Steve Jobs, who owned a Miele washing machine and publicly praised the company's design philosophy.
