About Rive Gauche Perfumes
Yves Saint Laurent is one of the most iconic French fashion design brands in the world. Their broad range of cosmetics and perfumes are now just as famous as their haute couture clothing designs, and Rive Gauche is one of their most famous perfume brands for women.
The gentle, floral fragrance is based on Magnolia, gardenia and honeysuckle. These are combined with gentle woody overtones, with sandalwood and oakmoss. Developed in 1970 by perfumer Michel Hy, its name translates as ?left bank?. This is a reference to the left bank of the river Seine, where the Yves Saint Laurent boutique was located. This trendy, fashionable area of Paris is renowned for its Bohemian feel, and free-thinking, liberal and metropolitan inhabitants.
The original formulation remained unchanged for thirty years ? although in the 2000s, the composition was changed slightly, with the addition of clear woody, and aromatic scents. The addition of pelargonium and rose flower soften the sharper metallic notes of the original composition ? and are generally considered to have been a positive enhancement. Rive Gauche is still undoubtedly one of the most instantly distinguishable perfumes in the world, and is available in a range of sizes.
The distinctive blue and black packaging is instantly recognisable ? and is also used for a range of other Rive Gauche products such as body lotion, shower gel and vitalising soap. The only bottles that don?t generally have the same design are the Rive Gauche miniature products which feature in Yves Saint Laurent perfume selection boxes.
