About Thermostatic Bath Shower Mixers
A thermostatic bath shower mixer is easier to use and more efficient than the traditional, independent hot and cold tap or plug on shower head systems. They are designed to work as both the bath taps and shower taps and can change between the two by the simple push or pull of a button or pin.
The mixer function of these products offers much greater control of the water temperature than a traditional separate hot and cold tap configuration, and in most cases will last longer as they will not be over-tightened as separate taps often are. Mixers are plumbed in to both the hot and cold water supply and in most cases mounted to the bath through a single hole (wall mounted and free standing options are also available). They have a single temperature control valve that changes the flow or mix of hot and cold water to your preferred temperature. The pressure of the water sent to the tap or shower head can be controlled by either a separate control or by increasing or decreasing the angle of lift on a single tap configuration.
In most cases, a thermostatic bath shower mixer will be made from solid metal. The finish of the product can vary considerably with chrome, stainless steel and brushed metal finishes being the most widely available. In some of the more advanced product ranges, the mixers can come with tap lighting that changes colour to indicate the temperature of the water.
