History of JazzExplore the ebb and flow of this highly influential genre
A journey through the broad history of jazz
Congo Square was established in New Orleans in the early 19th century as a designated place for music and dance, and this is where jazz music first began to blossom. By the 1920s, famous jazz musicians Duke Ellington and George Gershwin made their first recordings and began what is now known as the Jazz Age. By the 1940s, Louis Armstrong and his bandmates brought jazz to the popular consciousness. Into the 1950s, Miles Davis led the way to the cool jazz tradition. As jazz grew and developed, it became a vibrant part of American music and is still beloved today.
