History of MTVA Look Back at the History of MTV
From music videos to rising popular artists, MTV has quite a history
Music television went live on air for the first time when MTV launched in 1981. The first music video to air was 'Video Killed the Radio Star' by the Buggles. In the beginning, the channel aired in a limited number of households in New Jersey. However, MTV's growing popularity and high demand made it readily available in most households by the late 1980s. From 'Total Request Live' in the 1990s to 'Laguna Beach' in the 2000s, the channel became a pop culture phenomenon with its music entertainment and TV shows, especially among teens and young adults.
