    An outstanding primer with techniques that apply to all native fruit trees

    This is an excellent primer in the principles of pruning apple trees. It breaks down what, for many people, is an intimidating, arcane subject into an easily understandable set of rules and techniques. It also includes numerous, clear diagrams to illustrate points in the text. I took the Certificate in Community Orcharding with The Orchard Project and this was the book they gave us on pruning. It's easy to see why: it's thorough, extremely clear and demystifies pruning, making it a manageable task. It also includes pruning espaliers. And although the title refers to apples, the basic principles apply to all native fruit trees (pears, plums, cherries etc.). Buy it! You won't regret it.
