The Sony HVL-F58AM digital camera flash is Sony‘s top option when it comes to a shoe mount flash for the Sony Alpha series of cameras. This mounted flash offers powerful features for photographers, with a range of more than 45 feet and a guide number of 58, which works at up to 190 feet at 105-millimeter settings. The camera offers wireless control for up to three groups of flashes, with different assigned ratios for each group. This Sony flash also offers the Quick Shift Bounce system, which allows the photographer to move the flash up to 90 degrees to the left and right, allowing horizontal lighting distribution even when shooting vertically. For professional photographers, this product also offers Advanced Distance Integration metering, auto zoom, high-speed sync, auto white balance, and a five-second recharge time.

    Its Lightweight and has great features to use

    I wish I had bought this flash unit years ago. Once I started using it I could see how much better my pictures look. The flash unit is easy to use and it has a feature that after you take your picture there is a green light that lets you know that you took the picture is all the right exposure. Whoever I bought this from sent it to me very fast it took to days from San francisco, Thank you.

    Good but EXPENSIVE

    I use this on my A99 and A77. With 2 it does great fill in and shadow cancellation. The auto fill in requires me to stop down 1.5 on the a77 and .5 on the a99 or the exposures are overexposed. Sometimes I use a competition's thyristor model, the Vivitar 285HV. It doesn't have the range of the 58AM but it requires no adjustment on my cameras. (It also can be bought used for 1/5 the price of a used 58AM) At least most of the time. The 285HV does require an extra setting but that is pretty simple. One thing I really like about the 58AM is the multiple flash programming. I shoot ballet practices and performances and is is not only useful for training, it makes some astounding shots. So I guess my only gripe is the cost for the features. Even used these cost a bundle. If I ...

    this was an excellent buy

    I’ve purchased the same model about 15 years ago for my Sony A77, and I’m totally familiar with it. I’ve purchased the Sony adapter shoe so it fits and functions flawlessly with my A6600. I see zero reason to purchase the HVL-60, as the HVL-58 was top of the line when it was released. The item I purchased had the fit and finish of a brand new item, so yes … I purchased a top of the line item for less than half the price of a new OEM model. I’m completely satisfied.

    An ideal complement to the earlier versions of SONY DSLRs.

    With fresh batteries, the HVL-F58AM profives consistent output and is an ideal complement to the earlier versions of SONY DSLRs. The ONLY thing that would have made this a two-thumbs up purchase would have been a user manual. However, I was easily able to find one on line at the SONY website.
