Reviews
By turns memoir, Bible study and self-help book, Graham's platform as the daughter of beloved evangelist Billy Graham gives her the credentials to spin this competent tale of brokenness. But she offers more than a famous lineage: "I am qualified to write this book because I am flawed," she writes. She shares her struggles parenting three children through out-of-wedlock pregnancies, drug abuse and bulimia; her battle with depression and flirtation with suicide, and her disappointment over two divorces. "I know what it's like to sit in the pew with a broken heart," says Graham. It's her vulnerability in the memoir portions that lend credence to the fairly basic application items at the end of the chapters. (Advice to those experiencing suffering: "seek godly counsel" and "maintain your daily devotional times with God.") Graham finds solace for the brokenhearted through scripture, looking at the lives of Jeremiah, Elijah and other biblical examples. Unlike many inspirational books of this ilk, there's no fairytale ending. Graham admits she is in the midst of a third faltering marriage, but she says she's grateful God accepts her as she is- "hurting, wounded, broken." In true Graham fashion, the book concludes with an altar call. Weary Christians disappointed with the way their lives have turned out should find this a heartening read. • IN EVERY PEW SITS A BROKEN HEART.

I bought it because the title caught my attention. I am a churchgoer and live with the regrets and pain of my past mistakes. I often think the people would not like me if they knew , so i sit in the pew with a broken heart. To be the daughter of Billy Graham ; it must have been so much harder to realize all her dreams had gone so wrong. All the warnings we resisted and just had to do it our way proved to be correct and we go home ashamed. And sometimes, it feels like church is the harshest of all and the most judgemental. So reading the book is kindly like my life too.

    • Book Review

I was referred to this book by my mother-in-law so I searched EBay and found it. Once I started reading it I couldn't put it down. It is a great book and very helpful to those of us who want to learn how to have a more fulfilling life and move on after the walls come tumbling down. I would recommend this one to everyone because we all have those times in our lives and we need to heal and get over it before we can move on for a more fulfilling life.

    • Excellent Book!

Ruth is very honest and open about the struggles she endured with her husband having numerous affairs all while raising their three young children. You feel her pain and challenges as she tries to put the pieces of her life back together again. I learned a lot from her book! It’s a “must read!”

    • In Every Pew Sits a Broken Heart by Ruth Graham

I bought this book because I love the writings of all the Billy Graham family, especially his wife, Ruth Bell Graham, who is a gifted writer and inspirer. However this book is by their daughter, middle child of five, Ruth Graham. It is the story of her journey through pain and heartbreak, and final redemption. A wonderful story of faith and victory. I would highly recommend it.
