    I collect books on the native languages of the British Isles and as a promoter of such tongues, I am always interested in how authors try to help newcomers learn a language. In the old days, the Teach Yourself series was written by academics and one needed a degree in English just to understand the terminology used by such authors. Since then, times have changed as the realisation has dawned on most of these authors that one does not need a thorough knowledge of English in order to grasp successfully another language. The Teach Yourself series has moved on and certainly within the Celtic languages of Britain and Ireland, by far the best book is Teach Yourself Living Welsh. Teach Yourself Gaelic emulates this tome, but still suffers from terms like 'infinitive, imperative & subjunctive ...
