This is a story from a bygone age recalling the most successful flying-boat airliner ever built. Designed to a specification for Imperial Airways, then Britain's national airline, it carried passengers and, more importantly, mail throughout the British Empire. The airliner offered luxurious travel for the privileged few, every journey being an adventure shared by passengers and Short Brothers built 42 Empires at their factory in Rochester during the late 1930s. Imperial Airways were expanding their network to the furthermost outposts of the British Empire, whilst laying down the principles of scheduled airline operation.       Adventurous Empires

      A well written book brimming with detail. Maybe not one for the person with a passing interest but excellent for someone with a keen interest in detail. Riveting stuff, the geeks will love It and I hold my hand up now. A world of elegance and adventure that has long passed us by. For those lucky enough to have experienced it, must have been wonderful, but never to return. The entire history of that era is in books like this. A great read and value for money.
