This was an actual first edition and it’s hard to tell the difference. Some people believe that because of the words “First American Edition” are printed on the copyright page that it’s a first edition. However a little trick they don’t realize that it can be a “First American Edition” or the 44th reprint or the first edition of the 100th reprint. People have to check the random placed numbers at the bottom. If there is a “1” (not a 01) in the clutter of numbers ie 3 5 7 9 1 2 4 6 8 that means it is a true first edition! I’m just glad I finally got my hands on a true first edition of this book. It’s in good condition. Thank you very much!

Of course, everyone knows HP and the Sorcerer’s Stone is a fantastic book, the story is great. Now for this specific item, it didn’t specify it was a Book Club Edition (much cheaper and smaller than the normal book) and that it was used (the bottom corners are torned perhaps of putting it in and out of shelves). The dust jacket and edges of the book are not in “new” condition. Real value is around $5 or less. I attached pictures comparing it to a normal version of the hardcover book. As you can see even the panels are different, the completely red panel means it’s a cheaper made Book Club Edition. Also took very long to arrive, but I’m not basing my review on this because of the current situation going on around the world.

My family loves the Harry Potter series. I started reading them in the late 1990s when I started buying them for my youngest son. My daughter and her 15 year old son are also addicted. Truly stories for the entire family. This is the first in the series, and a present for that daughter, who found it missing from her collection. We all own them in hardback! Can't recommend the series or J.K. Rowling, the author, highly enough.

The book that sparked a generation's love for reading. This story is just as enjoyable today in my 30s as it was over 20 years ago when I was 11. Be immersed in this marvellous world of magic.

As with all of Rowling's books/movies/ this is fabulous! Always age appropriate depending on the time lines for the stories. We watched Harry and the gang grow from basically young children to intelligent and sophisticated young adults and loved every minute. This particular book was a gift for a students birthday. He is 10 so this book was a hit. I recommend it to all Potter fans. It has come in handy as a discussion topic for my class and we often do book reports on the series.

The least violent of the six so far. As an educator, I found it most appealing to the 9 to 12 year olds. The author weaves a wonderful world for the reader, one which forces us to use our imaginations and let go of the norms. It is easily read by most 3rd or 4th graders, with excellent jumping off points for discussion. Parents will love this series as it also appeals to the child in all of us. The classic theme of good vs. evil is a wonderful way to teach children to look for themes in a novel. Read this book with your child, it will provide a memory for them. Reading with your child is very important. Bravo Ms. Rowling, you have a winner in my book.
My best friend gave me this book and insisted that I read it. We are both in our late '50's. We both now have every book in the series. I have two sets of Harry Potter so that I can give a set to my granddaughter when her reading level is sufficient to handle the vocabulary. The magical realm created by J. K. Rowling is so vivid one can visualize it in technicolor. Some of her sly humor is certainly aimed at adults, who can read some of the passages with a different level of understanding than young folk. As a writer, I can pay no greater compliment to an author than the fact that I wish I had written this book, not because it has sold a zillion copies, but because it is so clever.
Reading The Harry Potter Series just makes the entire story much more enjoyable. Especially, in its original form as written. Highly recommend!

I wanted to complete my Harry Potter series in hardbacks—replacing a few I had in paperback. This book fit the bill—great price, good condition, dust jacket intact.

This book is an excellent example of how an author can create a whole new world with just with the written word. This book is in prime condition for a first edition book written by J. K. Rowling. This book is the first of a seven book series about a eleven year boy and he learns about his parents' world through his new found classmates at Hogwarts. Each book afterwards takes the reader to a new place and we read intently and watch Harry grow up and face difficult and challenging confrontations from Lord Voldemort. I highly recommend this book and the following books after this book to any reader who wants to be emerged into a new world containing wizards and witches.
