The Sony VRD-MC6 Portable DVD Recorder is a very useful device for transferring videos from camcorder or any other AV source whether it be Composite, FireWire/IEEE1394/DV, USB, MemoryStick, XD or SD Memory Card to DVD -R/-RW /+R/+RW. Here are some of the Pros and Cons of owning the unit. Pros: The unit can capture and record both NTSC and PAL formats making it very easy to transfer between formats without encountering regional issues. Also I found the unit very useful for taking on holidays because of its compactness and ease of use when it comes to transferring footage to DVD on the go without the need for a computer. The unit has a built in monitor which allows for easy viewing/reviewing. The unit uses 12v so it may be possible to attach an external battery or use it in a car with the appropriate adapter cable. I found a few additional uses for the unit as well. (1) Transfer from VHS to DVD. (2) Transfer from Security-DVR to DVD. (3) Transfer from LaserDiscs to DVD. So basically anything with a Composite Port can be connected to the device for capture/transfer of media. Cons: Few things I realised about the unit were some older USB streaming camcorders (DCR-DVD200E) weren’t supported unless you use the Composite AV Port and the MicroMV DV Port (IP55E) was also not supported, again the trusty Composite AV Port had to be used. Not all picture (mainly due to size) and video formats can be transferred from XD and SD Cards, MemoryStick has fewer issues due to the device file format compatibility (most Sony MemoryStick devices record video to MPEG-1 and AVCHD standards). If you need to make copies you still need a computer or duplicator, it would have been nice if Sony allowed for copying by letting users plug in an external DVD-ROM drive via the USB Port. It would be nice if it had a battery option. Overall though the device is excellent and is very easy to use, I would definitely recommend this product to others due to its sheer user simplicity and device portability.Read full review
The best device to save your family memories quickly and easy without any laptop or software. Vrd mc6 is well made, always keeping the high Sony’s standards. I regret that I didn’t purchased it few years earlier and was trying to convert my old tapes using an external software. Vrd mc6 made this procedure easy and fast. Thanks.

What can you say about the VRD MC6 Brilliant, as long as everything else you put through it, is sony. The mini dv port will connect any make, canon etc. As technology progress, connections like the S, CF, become redundant, as new versions of the VRD are produced they are not catered for. It's a shame. The VRDs are amazing bit of kit.

I love the fact that the device has an operating system and set of functions I wasn't expecting. I bought it to copy my VHS Tapes, but it turns out it'll do far more than I gave it credit, so I may end up recording real-time videocamera to DVD with it as well.
Great item works great easy to setup & use plenty of out let's for cameras etc I hope this is some help
