Sher plays the moustachio'd Howard Kirk, left-wing Marxist, promiscuous womaniser and bully. Adapted by Oscar-winning screenwriter Christopher Hampton, Bradbury's scathing novel is 'one of the most influential of the 1970s' (Guardian).
A glimpse of 70's radicalism in UK Universities. Superb cast and a great "creepy" performance by Antony Sher in the lead role. It was filmed at my old University in Lancaster and it was great seeing how it used to be when I was there in 1974. The themes and fashions of those times seem oddly familiar today and the ME TOO generation will groan at Sher's self righteous sexploits. Well worth a watch and not just for the History buffs.
