The funny thing if you're an older Rush fan like myself is that you think all their good stuff is from 20 or more years ago. While those are the Rush tunes I enjoy most, it neglects the fact that they have become MUCH better players with age. That's the beauty of "Different Stages". It's a more recent collection ("only" 10 years old) but with a lot of older material. And the newer songs included are probably the best of their 90's stuff. Plus the inclusion of an old "Farewell to Kings" era show on the 3rd disc lets you see for yourself how they've improved. Although I love the intensity (and "small club" feel) of this disc, it does get a little sloppy (comparatively) at times. The perfect example of this dichotomy is "2112" on the first disc. Awesome Awesome Awesome old Rush song - but a waaaaay tighter performance here than on "All the World's a Stage". The only reason I gave this collection a "good" vs an "excellent" rating is, like I said, I'm an old-school Rush fan (like probably anyone reading this) and I guess I can't bring myself to claim it's the best live offering they have ... even though it probably is.Read full review
I got influenced to buy the CD after reading others opinion of it and was intrigued by the idea of hearing different guitar licks, etc. and a live version of old favorites. Geddy's voice is a lot more mature these days...and I actually prfer today to back then but it is cool to be able to hear how it was. I have not listened to the whole set yet but am enjoying the hell outta the live songes from 1978 at the Hammersmith Odeon. I was PRIVELEGED to see RUSH live in 2007 in St. Paul, MN. OMG. If I die and never see another band I will have missed nothing. No one compares. BTW...what's this bull that they aren't in the R&R Hall of Fame? Shame. Shame. Great E-bay buy.
I was a bit cautious about buying another "live" album by this great power trio, but upon listing to the album in chronological order { Hammersmith Odeon '78} first, you can really see how this band evolved into the band it has become today! Great stuff. {Even the synth era songs}

Product in great shape! Price was right. I lost my Rush collection and this was one CD I needed to have. It is actually a live 3 cd set so the deal was worth it.
