In Mass Effect, users play as Commander Shepard. You can select from either a male or female version of the commander before the game begins. In this first game of the trilogy, the human race has just learned the Reapers are approaching. These giant robots have just one goal in mind: exterminating all life in the galaxy. With a reaper fast approaching earth, Shepard must assemble a team and figure out how to stop it. It won't be easy, as villains such as Saren, a rogue special agent, stand in your path. Saren is doing everything he can to sabotage your attempts. This BioWare title was published by Microsoft and Electronic Arts in 2007. Mass Effect features over 40 hours of content for players to explore.Mass Effect is best described as an action role-playing game. There are numerous space stations where you can talk to characters, buy items, and obtain quests. These quests range from story-based objectives to helping protect the local citizens. Completing quests earns you money and experience. Money helps you purchase new equipment, while experience helps you gain levels. With every new level you reach, you get more health and more bionic abilities. Throughout the title, you'll choose the dialogue that you want Shepard to say. Frequently, you'll make a choice between good and evil dialogue options, which influence both this title and the future games in the series. For example, a choice made here could have repercussions all the way up to Mass Effect 3. There are even romantic options you can pursue. The romance you begin here will last throughout the other games as well.Words will only get you so far in this Xbox 360 exclusive title. Similar to Mass Effect 3, you eventually will need to engage your foes in combat. You can select two additional crew members to take with you into battle where you control your character using a third-person view. You can take cover behind objects in the environment. You can also use your unique biotic abilities to destroy your enemies. Weapons range from simple pistols to giant rocket launchers. Depending on the class you choose at the beginning of the title, the missions will play out differently. For example, one character class may rely on robotic hacking abilities to win in combat. Another class may rely on brute force to overpower the enemy. The Mass Effect Limited Collector's Edition comes with an array of items any fan of the series will love. You'll receive a 36-page book detailing a timeline of the universe and the various races. An additional 36-page art book includes concept art such as early pictures of the Normandy ship. Greatest sci-fi game trilogy of all time in my opinion.
Great game even if it is over 15 years old. Some ppl would say the gameplay of the first one is the worst in the series but I actually enjoy the more RPG elements about it over the first person shooter style of 2,3, and Andromeda.

A can't miss title!
I'll be honest I first bought this game on a whim. I didn't really have that high of expectations for it. I'm under the impression that an RPG cannot be done well with real time fights. Mass Effect proved me wrong. I can't get enough of this game. The fights play out in real time, but you can approach it just like a 3rd person shooter. You take cover, peak out and take the enemy down. This is saying nothing about the plethora of tech abilities and biotic powers that are at your disposal. These add an insane amount of possibilities to the already solid fighting. The beauty of it is that it's up to you how you want to play it. My first time through I used the soldier class and just blasted my way through anybody or thing that stood in my way. On my return trip to the Mass Effect universe I ... I haven't even begun to touch on the story. It is hands down, in my humble opinion, the greatest story ever told in a game. Through out the game you're given choices. These choices can affect the story in many different ways. I find it quite refreshing that you, the player, actually have the power to change the universe around you. Some will argue that you don't have that much impact on what actually happens in the end, but just the fact that your actions carry weight is a very nice touch. I don't want to delve too deep into the story for fear of ruining any of it. You just have to take my word for it. The story is absolutely epic in scale. I'm really not sure what else to say to try and convince you to check Mass Effect out. You won't be dissapointed.

A New Favorite.
I am not usually a fan of space sci-fi or shooter games, but this game is in a class of it's own. Much detail went into graphics, character creation and storyboard. I love that how I choose to play my character actually effects how the story plays out, and your character isn't limited to good or bad choices only, the game has included the grey areas that truly exsist in life. There are so many options and ways to explore and play, that it gives the game great replayability without feeling bored. So many hours of game play(60+ easy) it makes it more than worth the price, particularly when the average game only gives you about 15 hours of play. HUGE!!!
Pros + A game that plays like an epic movie!!! + Nice fire fights with cool weapons and powers to build up. + A huge universe to explore. This game may just consume you. + Beautiful visuals and an epic musical score. Cons - Your character cannot attain further special skills after your career has been chosen. (I played for 4 hours before I realized I would have to start over before I could get a sniper rifle. And I lost my telepathic powers when I chose the career with the sniper rifle. Why couldn't I have both???) - There are some control issues, especially during combat. (Hard to get up against the wall sometimes.) - Loading screens and elevators may get on your nerves quite a bit. Comments This is the game people have been waiting for. I will only mention the Limited Collectors Edition aspects of the game because the game itself has been reviewed in much detail. All nicely packaged in a tin case with raised lettering the game and extra dvd come in a seperate sleeve to protect it from the shipping problems in Halos Limited Edition. Although the tin is a little chincy all in all this is the best limited edition for the best game, ever. All the content is exactly as pictured here and when you look at the cost of themes and gamerpics on live, those alone make this well worth it. A truly "limited" limited edition.I will only mention the Limited Collectors Edition aspects of the game because the game itself has been reviewed in much detail.
