Sonic Generations for the Microsoft Xbox 360 console capitalizes on the many changes that the series has seen. It can be a perfect mix of old school and contemporary gameplay meshed into one experience. Each stage in the story works in two ways. There is the Classic version, which uses the 2-D side scroller approach, like the first games in the franchise. The Modern version has a 3D platformer style, like the "Sonic Adventure" games and their follow ups. You make progress in the story and complete optional challenges. Along the way, you can upgrade and expand your array of skills as both Modern- and Classic-Sonic. The storyline is based on time. A monster that can create holes in time sends our hero and his friends back in time to the pre-modern era. Modern-Sonic and his companions team up with Classic-Sonic and other pals. Together they take on the union of Modern-Eggman and Classic-Eggman. The two villains are trying to sow chaos by manipulating time. That's the root of how the two eras can overlap. It lets the team mix old villains, like Metal Sonic, in with new bosses. It even includes a cameo of Super Sonic. The presentation banks on nostalgia. The music contains many classic themes, both old and remixed. It is done to invoke the player's memories of the older games in the series. The locations work the same way. There are appearances from stages dating back to the first games. "Sonic Generations" was released on November 1, 2011. It is rated E for Everyone, so its content is geared towards gaming enthusiasts of all ages. Cartoon violence is present on this title.     Best most recent 3D Sonic game

    This game has a great balance of fast gameplay along with multiple pathways, precise platforming and an overall great Sonic experience. The final boss is definitely weird but Sonic Team just can't seem to get that right. The Hedgehog bosses feel like run/dodge/hit simulators, simple for kids though I was hoping for more details much like the Chaos fight. Got this game for my siblings as their first Video game recently and they really enjoy it (even though they can barely hold a 360 controller). All in all I reckon anyone can enjoy this game. And for you trophy hunters, this game is an easy platinum.

    Close to a home run game, definetely worth picking up

    I would give this a 4.5 to be honest, but it is a great Sonic game that any fan will find enjoyable. Original levels from all of Sonic's legacy of games and their music are re-imagined with good detail and a well-made modern makeover. Switching between classic and modern Sonic is well made, giving a different experience with each level! You play as one version of Sonic first, and then switch to the other for the alternate experience. What keeps this game from 5 stars is the cheesy story, and a lack of online play is a big blow. There is no excuse as it was released in 2011, well into the massive online era of gaming, and it has multiplayer on the 3DS version. Other than that, would recommend adding this to your collection.

    Breaking the Sound barrier with a Hog :D
