This is my first lens purchase. Coming from the kit lens that was included with my OM-D E-M10 was like night and day. This lens focuses much faster, produces much sharper images with nicer color, and produces fantastic background blur. The lens hood that is included is plastic, but I do not find it to be as flimsy as some reviewers have said. It seems to be made of high grade plastic, and has a nice finished feel to it, as can be said for the lens itself. The manual focus ring feels smooth, and I am able to get a good feel for it after a few minutes of warming up, so that manual focus becomes fast as well. If you are thinking of this lens for a first lens purchase like I was, be assured that this focal length is very versatile. I really love it for candid portraits of friends, family, and pets. Landscapes can also be framed nicely, as can architectural shots. The lens is also quite small and light, making it a joy to just keep on the camera so that you can grab it and go any time you leave the house.Read full review

I love this lens. It’s sharp, quiet and compact, a great all-round focal length. I use it for street shooting, food photos, environmental portraits. The image quality is very clear. Not the extra character of some lenses, but what you see is what you get, which is sometimes easier to work with in post.

When you take into account the micro four-thirds crop factor, the field of view of this lens is equivalent to that of a 50mm lens in full-frame terms. In other words, it's a natural field of view that approximates the magnification factor that you see with your eyes. The lack of zooming capabilities means you have to move around more to achieve your desired composition, but that improves your skills as a photographer. The image quality is great, the build quality OK (plastic housing), and it's a good value overall. My only wish is that Olympus had made this a little bit “brighter.” If this lens could have opened up its aperture to f/1.4 or f/1.2, that would have been amazing.

I just love the M43 size! I have realized that I don't need the larger FF chip. The chip is smaller, so the lens is smaller to. It is sharp from f1.8, and even sharper from f2.8 up. The only negatives are, it is a little plasticky, and not weather sealed. The AF is very fast and accurate. The contrast and color are perfect for my taste vibrant and clear. Not good for extreme situations like weather, or pro usage. I love it!
